Architecture, Modernization, and Platform Engineering

I created ZibiWorks to explore architecture decisions in context, including the tradeoffs, constraints, and delivery realities that usually get left out of diagrams.

I’m an architect with a background in application architecture, cloud platforms, distributed systems, platform engineering, and complex modernization efforts.

Much of my work has involved joining complex, in-flight initiatives where architecture has to balance long-term design with the realities of getting something delivered. That experience shapes how I approach the problems in this series: start with the problem, make the tradeoffs explicit, and favor architecture that teams can actually build, operate, and evolve.

A lot of architecture writing shows the finished diagram without showing much of the reasoning that produced it.

ZibiWorks follows one fictional company through a series of decisions and makes that reasoning visible: what the business needs, where the current platform gets in the way, what the constraints allow, and what has to ship on a real timeline.

Using a fictional company gives me room to make those tradeoffs visible without pretending every decision has a clean answer. There is no vendor to please and no success story to protect. Decisions can have costs, compromises, and unresolved problems.

The goal is not to present the architecture as the answer. It is to show enough of the reasoning behind it that readers can decide what applies to their own situations.
